Mercer County Club Sports (MCCS) is committed to ensuring all games are
played safely. Our top priority is the care of the player. In case of an
injury, the refereeâ??s should complete the following steps:
1) Stop the game.
2a) If the injury is minor, then:
a) Help the injured player off the field.
b) Do not attempt to diagnose or treat the injury.
c) Provide the injured player with items from the
medical kit (i.e. Band-Aids, ice packs, etc.)
d) The referee can put in a substitute and resume
game play.
e) ENCOURAGE THE ATHLETE TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
BEFORE RETURNING TO THE GAME!
2b) If the injury is major, then:
a) Instruct the players to step off the field while
the referee(s) attend to the injured player.
b) Do not attempt to diagnose or treat the injury.
c) Communicate with the injured player to see if
they can move off the field.
d) If you suspect that the injured player will need
immediate medical attention, call 911.
d) If the injured party was able to be safely
removed from the field, and made a decision about further medical attention,
then the game can resume.
e) ENCOURAGE THE ATHELETE TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
BEFORE RETURNING TO THE GAME!
3) Make sure you know the names of all players injured or involved in
the play that caused the injury.
4) Fill out the injury report online AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and definitely
complete it before leaving the field.
